NEHS Student Blog 10/30/2020 by Miguel Vasquez

The year 2020 has been a very unique one to experience. In the midst of all the mind-blowing chaos this year has flung at us, it is very remarkable that as a whole we, the student body, have remained relatively calm. Already starting the second nine weeks, I find it incredible that we have been able to hold school, let alone in-person school, for such a significant amount of time. Seeing all of my friends and everyone at school prompted me to feel a sense of normality, which you may likely relate to. Thinking about the situation further, I have found new meaning in the saying “you don’t know how truly valuable something is until it is gone”, and it has provided me with a very insightful perspective. Some people may dislike school for a number of reasons, but virtually everyone gets something out of school, whether it is the concepts you learn or the people you meet and interact with. School plays such a key part in the development of children. Think back for a second to your childhood and your experiences in elementary or middle school. Think about all of the people you met and the friends you made. Think about all of the fun times and activities you did, whether with your friends or alone. School provides one with such an enriching experience, and this pandemic has allowed for me to view the true significance of the school system. It is easy for one to be entitled to the things that have always been there, but one must find the true value of those things and cherish them greatly because they may not be there in the future.

So, whenever you are struggling with coursework or anything in general, just remember that your teachers believe in you and want you to be a great person in life, so go be great! Life is too short, so go make the best out of it.
